Dog silhouette leash holder
When I was running an Etsy shop, this adorable leash holder was one of my most popular items. Now that I am no longer building and shipping items, I have been receiving requests for a tutorial. So here it is!
Materials I used:
12 x 12 inch piece of 1/8” baltic birch

I start off with a 1x6 piece of pine and measure out 22 inches. This is the only cut you need to make for this project.
I pull out my table router and round the edges with a 1/8 inch round over bit. This step is optional but if you have a router, it is worth taking the time to do it.
I sand go over everything with a sander (I pretty much always use 220 grit sandpaper with my random orbit sander)
And then add ebony wood stain and let it dry overnight.
While that is drying, I get my doggies ready. I have provided the free svg files for download on my website. I cut the pups out of 1/8” baltic birch. Glowforge settings: 145 speed and full power. Alternately, you could use a Cricut and cut these silhouettes out of vinyl. If you don’t have the time or tools to make these yourself, I can make them for you.
I spray paint them white to contrast with the ebony wood stain.
I start from the center and space them 4 inches apart. Once I have everything where I want it, I’ll put wood glue on them.
I use a ruler to make sure the hooks are all even.
It’s a good idea to pre-drill the holes for the screws, in order to not split the birch. I mark my holes with a a fine tip sharpie.
Once the holes are drilled, the screws go in pretty easy.
Add a couple of d-rings to the backside so it can hang on the wall.
and we’re done! It is ready to go on the wall!
To demonstrate how to make these using a Cricut or similar vinyl cutter, I am using a smaller 12 inch scrap piece of wood. I sand the surfaces and also go over the edges. Sanding the edges is a nice alternative if you don’t have a router.
I apply wood stain and let it dry overnight.
The SVG file can import directly into Cricut Design Space.
On this one, I am using black vinyl for the silhouettes.
Just stick the pups on the wood, attach the hooks and add mounting hardware to the back.
